FABLED CITY: “No Irish Need Apply”
In the summer of 1847, 38,000 Irish immigrants passed through Toronto, a city of 20,000, fleeing disease, poverty, the failure of the potato crop and government indifference. A tragedy of mammoth proportions, news of the famine filled the minds of Canadians everywhere. That summer, innkeeper Thomas Montgomery hosted a benefit to aid the struggling refugees. Join storyteller Nan Brien and historical music ensemble Gin Lane as they recreate that event in the very same room at Montgomery’s Inn. Period refreshments provided.
Friday, March 26th / 8:00 to 9:30pm
